We dropped one car off at Clifton and met the other car at the Clive Grange Domain Reserve. The weather was perfect for a beach walk; sunny, calm but not too hot.
Starting at the domain we followed along the last of the shared pathway beside the Tukituki River to the coast. From there we avoided the limestone pathway as much as possible by walking beside the sea or along the gravel tracks through the coastal vegetation until we reached the Maraetotara River mouth. It was not long after high tide so there was a bit of soft shingle in places but it was still pretty easy going.
From the river mouth we walked up through the Te Awanga camp ground and along Kuku street to Clifton Road. We then followed the shared pathway to Hygge cafe where our cycling group was already having lunch. After lunch we carried on southwards alongside the sea until just past the big slip of 2019 before returning back to our transport.
