Mount Erin

8 December 2021

This was our last listed midweek walk for the year and a group of 14 met at the start of the 4WD track. Access had been kindly given by the station manager and after completing the farm work safety requirements it was all go. The day was to prove very hot with little wind and on hindsight a much earlier start would have been beneficial as the forecasted rain never appeared.

The track is in good condition and we started out together in one group plus Alasdair on his trusty MTB who soon left us behind and reached the tops in a ride time of one hour. The rest meanwhile had split into two groups and the fast party took just over two hours and the rest a little later after plenty of rehydration stops and lunched in the shade of the tower while a couple stopped for lunch just short of the tops and all enjoyed the views to the ranges and Napier and beyond.

Regrouping for the return and gravity propelled us back to our cars. A very enjoyable day was had by all on a track new to most.

Party: Anthea C, Barbara P, Christine H, Maggie B, Janice L, Anne C, Joan R, Glenda H, Alasdair S, Garry S, Graeme H, Pete H, Pete H, Rodger B.
