12 – 13 July 2025
The start of July saw 17 club members have a cruisy weekend in the Mahia/Morere area, a popular trip with a full van plus a full car.
We first ventured up the Mangaone Road, along the Mangaone w Caves walking track and into the dark damp Mangaone Cave with head torches. We just went in a short distance but managed to spy some stalagmites. From the walking track we could get some good views of the countryside.

We then drove on to Morere Scenic Reserve/pools where we enjoyed lunch in the BBQ area in the pool grounds. After lunch some walked the Ridge track and others the Mangakawa track before soaking in the hot pools.

The next stop was to check into our accommodation at the Mahia Beach Resort which is a 30mins drive from Morere. We ended the day with a walk down to Sunset Point restaurant for dinner (both accommodation and restaurant were very good value).
The next day (Sunday) we drove up Kinikini Road to the Mahia Peninsula Scenic Reserve and all 17 of us walked the 2hr loop track. Then it was off to the beach for lunch and ice cream for some before our 2.5hr drive home diverting for a quick look at the Wairoa River mouth on the way.
