Eight of us (including one intrepid nine-year-old) drove to the Mackintosh track carpark on Castle Rocks Road. The start of the tramp was a 500m descent from carpark to the Tutaekuri River and across the bridge. After this we walked upstream a bit above the river, and across a small scree slope before the 500m ascent to the Mackinosh Hut.

Four stayed to explore the Mackintosh plateau before returning; four more continued crossing the Kaiarahi Creek to visit the old Kaweka Hut site before carrying on to the Lakes Road carpark. Glorious weather, great company.
